eFoiling with kids: safety first

eFoiling is a fantastic family activity. With children we always use a vest and helmet, remote-limited speed, flat water and an instructor in the water right beside them. We recommend ages 8-10 and up (depending on weight and water confidence) and short 30-45 minute sessions so the experience stays a game, not a challenge. High-volume boards like the Waydoo EVO Max Plus 130L are hugely stable and dramatically speed up kids' learning.

How to stand up on an eFoil: 5 keys

First, lie prone with your hands on the board: accelerate gently and feel the glide. Second, move to your knees, eyes on the horizon — never your feet. Third, place your front foot where your knees were and rise in one fluid motion. Fourth, knees bent and weight forward: 80% of falls come from leaning back. Fifth, throttle up progressively and let the board lift off by itself. In our 2-hour lesson, 90% of students fly on day one.

Alcúdia bay: our perfect classroom

It's no accident our base is in Alcúdia. The bay is wide, shallow near shore and sheltered from the prevailing winds, with flat water most mornings — ideal conditions for first flights. There's little boat traffic in our working areas and the sandy bottom adds extra peace of mind. At sunset, the light over the Tramuntana mountains turns every session into a show.
How long does an eFoil battery last?

It depends on rider weight, speed and style: 60 to 100 minutes of real riding on the Waydoo EVO models. To stretch it: cruise at 20-25 km/h, avoid hard bursts, and come in with margin. Number one: looking at your feet — the eFoil goes where your eyes go, look at the horizon. Two: weight back out of fear, causing abrupt take-offs; centre your weight and flex. Three: jerky throttle instead of progressive. Four: standing up too early; master kneeling glide first. Five: learning alone. With an instructor and a speed-limited remote, the process is shorter, safer and a lot more fun.

Waydoo news: Flight Assist, the EVO's secret weapon

In practice that means smooth take-offs, fewer falls and a much shorter learning curve. What to bring to your first eFoil lesson

Swimsuit, towel, sunscreen (cream over spray — kinder to the sea), a rash vest or shorty wetsuit depending on the season, and a sense of humour. We provide the rest: board, helmet, impact vest and a wetsuit if needed. Skip lotions right before riding (the board gets slippery) and bring water. Sunglasses? Only with a retainer strap. After a 10-minute shore briefing you're ready to hit the water.
Is eFoiling hard to learn? The truth

Easier than surfing, windsurfing or wakeboarding: you don't depend on waves or wind, and you control the power. Most of our students stand up within the first half hour and hold stable flights within their first 2-hour session. It helps to arrive relaxed, listen to the briefing and not rush. If you can swim and balance on a bicycle, you can fly. Start with the intro lesson.
Can Pastilla and Playa de Palma by eFoil

Our second home. The Can Pastilla area offers shallow water, easy access and a spectacular sheet of glass in the mornings before the thermal breeze kicks in. Sunrise sessions (7:00-9:00) become everyone's favourite once tried: mirror water with no wind or boats, perfect temperature and the feeling of opening the day in flight. eFoil safety: our protocol

Flying over water is safe when done right. Our protocol: helmet and impact vest always, 10-minute shore briefing, speed-limited remote for beginners, working zones away from swimmers and boats, instructor keeping constant sight of the student, and automatic motor cut-off on trigger release or fall. The foil is aluminium with rounded wings. Thousands of sessions back us up: the most common injury is next-day muscle soreness.

eFoil weather: how we read the day

Before every session we check three things: wind (direction and strength — under 12 knots the water stays friendly), swell (our bays shelter us most days) and boat traffic by time of day. That's why we operate several spots: if Alcúdia is choppy, Pollença or Can Pastilla are usually calm. You just book; we pick the best water of the day and let you know if shifting the time is worth it.

Care for your eFoil: 10-minute maintenance

After every session: fresh-water rinse (motor included), dry off, battery in the shade. Monthly: check mast and wing bolts, propeller condition and the battery connector o-rings. Rules and good practice in the Balearics

The eFoil counts as a recreational watercraft: ride outside buoyed swimming zones, respect entry and exit channels, keep distance from swimmers, anchorages and posidonia meadows, and stay under 3 knots within 50 m of other users. In every lesson and rental we explain the specific spot's rules before you enter the water. Flying is freedom; flying smart keeps it that way for everyone.
eFoil board types: volume, construction and foil

Three variables define a board: volume (more litres, more stability — 130L to learn, 75-90L to progress), construction (tough EPP for schools and families, stiff carbon for performance) and the foil wing (big and slow to start, small and fast for carving).
